Not quite sure what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn’t that (complimentary). One of the more bizarre. movies I’ve ever seen yet also one of the most visually striking. Kind of love how Glazer isn’t afraid of it being so odd.
It’s hypnotic, but I spent far too much of the runtime trying to figure out what was going on and who was doing what and why. But this just isn’t that kind of film. It’s pure visual storytelling from Glazer that plays like a silent film for the most part. I clicked with it the most once I surrendered to that & allowed myself to be washed over by it.
While the first half felt a bit too meandering, the second half more than makes up for it. The standouts aside from the visuals are clearly ScarJo (her best performance maybe?) and that spine chilling score I am still hearing in my head.
Even if you don’t love it, I doubt you will forget it anytime soon.
