Seeing an M. Night Shamalan movie always requires you to suspend your disbelief. That’s basically a pre-requisite to enjoyment as you get deeper into the runtime of his films.
And yet, Trap had so many “Seriously” or “There is no way” moments that it managed to take me completely out of it. Maybe it is just because it feels more grounded compared to his other modern films (Old & Knock At The Cabin) which both have fantastical elements that make you not think twice about something not being plausible. There was just something that nagged me a bit more with this one & allowed me to not shake those silly moments.
On top of that, the dialogue & performances were quite bad (minus Hartnett who I enjoyed). Loved the cinematography & some really fun staging, but never was enough to pull me back in it.
His movies have always been hit or miss for me. Wouldn’t categorize this as a miss, just not my thing. Loved everything up until they left the show, but nothing after that ever quite reached that level.
