Third time watching this in the past 34 days and it doesn’t lose any of its power. Sure, there isn’t that surprise element, but great films don’t need that to be great. Just blown away by what Denis did with this. Imagine how many poor versions of this could have existed. This is a good metric for me on what a 5 star film is - do you watch it once and it just stews in your consciousness until you see it again and again. It’s that 2nd or 3rd watch that defines a 4.5/5 star film. It’s easy to have your mind blown once, but really hard to have it done again and again when you already know what’s coming.
