I’ve got to admit, it’s pretty hilarious that in my last Letterboxd review I ranted about how many modern films open by flashing forward. Then the next movie I watch opens up exactly that way. 😂Seriously, we’ve got to stop this epidemic.
As for the film, I’m not sure why you even try something like this when “Misery” exists & tackles similar territory so well. The setup here works and you fall in love with the characters pretty quick, but once the turn happens all good will is immediately lost. The characters become so idiotic that it takes you out of the movie. Nothing feels authentic. It’s so one note that it hurts. It thinks it’s funnier than it is. And the screenplay is nowhere near as smart or cute as it thinks it is.
Also, can we make it illegal for a bad movie to quote Casablanca?? If your characters talk about or reference Casablanca at any point, you better be certain it’s going to be a good film. If it’s not, you go directly to director jail. You don’t pass go & you don’t get to collect $200.
