Not being dramatic when I say that this will go down as one of the defining comedies of the decade. I know the hype machine is strong with this one, but it is more than justified.
Ridiculously fun to sit in a room full of strangers and laugh till you can’t breathe at the pure genius of Matt Johnson. You can just feel the creativity pulsing through every second of the film. In fact, the moment that Johnson realizes he is in 2008 is probably the loudest I’ve ever laughed in a theater. The laughter carried through the theater for a solid minute or two.
Loses a bit of steam for me at the end when it gets more self serious, but it’s necessary to conclude the story in a satisfactory way. Can’t wait to revisit this over and over over again.
Johnson is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing young directors working. Exciting times!
