Aaron's Thoughts

Suffers from the same issues that almost every recent music biopic does. Works better as a music video montage than it does as a film. Covers so much ground that we are always at arms length. More focused on convincing you the subject is an angel from Heaven than it is in showing you his humanity or diving into his psychology.

Nothing new under the sun! But the thing it’s got going for it is one of the best catalogs in music history. No matter how bad the filmmaking is at times or how annoying the structure is, you aren’t human if you aren’t bopping your head when you hear Thriller or Billy Jean. Which gives this one a much higher floor than its genre predecessors. Oh, and Jaafar Jackson knocks it out of the park! No notes there.
