It was inevitable that at some point Hollywood was going to realize they were making too many films portraying an older male falling in love with a younger female, but very few films with the roles reversed.
So it isn’t bizarre that they have figured this out. What is bizarre though is that they are all coming out this year. We’ve already had three, and still have Babygirl to go.
Maybe it’s making up for lost time, but you can’t go that long without a particular type of story being regularly told & then expect 4 films coming out within 6 months of each other to not be compared to one another.
Unfortunately for Lonely Planet, the plot similarities have nothing to do with why the film doesn’t work at all.
