Aaron's Thoughts

I’ll be the first to admit that this was way more watchable than I ever thought it would be. I just can’t get over how long the film takes to show its hand. Then when it does, it has little time or interest in actually fleshing out the difficult themes.

If someone went in completely blind they would probably confuse the first hour & fifteenish minutes for a rom com. Maybe that’s the problem with having the director also portraying the antagonist on screen. Maybe it’s a desire to make the film less heavy than it should be. Either way, it leaves the film caught in a twilight zone. Too melodramatic/serious for a light fun movie, but too light for a melodrama.

Really liked certain sequences & think there is an interesting version of this that could have been made, it just probably isn’t as commercially successful. Movies for the non-movie going crowd aren’t a bad thing. I just wish people’s standards were higher.
