Kind of caught me off guard just how much I enjoyed this. High energy, informative, engaging, and moving all at the same time.
It may not happen after the unfortunate BAFTA stuff earlier this year, but I really hope that Sony Pictures Classics mounts a proper campaign for Robert Aramayo later this year. Easily the best performance I’ve seen so far this year & it’s hard to imagine there will be five better than his once we get to the end of the year.
Since 2010, every BAFTA winner for Best Actor in a Leading Role has gone on to win the Oscar except two (Austin Butler & Chiwetel Ejiofor). And even the two that didn’t win were at least nominated. The oddity here is that it was BAFTA eligible last year and Oscar eligible this year, so there isn’t much precedent here with that.
But he did win BAFTA, so if history is our guide, he should be a lock for an Oscar nom. Time will tell!
