Aaron's Thoughts
The framing device is beyond lame & the constant voiceover is nails on a chalkboard.
I’m also not quite as sold on John Patton Ford as everyone else seems to be. It’s clear that he cast Glen in this after watching Hit Man, but had no idea how to use him properly (same can be said about how Wright used him in the Running Man reboot last year). Makes you appreciate so much more the way Linklater pulls such special performances out of his actors.
Just feels like the whole thing should add up to something more than it does, which is no different than how I felt about Emily the Criminal.
That said, some superb character work by Zach Woods. And love that Qualley is really going for it, even if the story doesn’t seem as interested in her as it should be. No matter how good or bad a movie is, you never have to worry about her throwing a 100 mile an hour fastball. Our zany queen forever!
