Can we please stop opening every single movie with a climatic moment only to cut back to “days earlier” or “hours earlier”. It’s becoming so overused that I’m starting to roll my eyes every time it happens.
That aside, this was a fun enough costume drama with some pretty good filmmaking. The first moment that Tessa Thompson’s character locks eyes with Nina Hoss, your breath will be taken away. The camera moves in a way that makes it seem as if Thompson is levitating through the room towards Hoss. I audibly said, “Oh wow” out loud while it was happening. One of the cooler shots I have seen this year.
Speaking of Tessa Thompson and Nina Hoss, both are remarkable & the material gives them both some fun moments where they really get to ham it up.
I’m not at all familiar with the source material, but can totally see how it would play well on a stage! Glad this was made, even if I’m unlikely to fire it up again anytime soon.
