For the first 75 minutes this was one of my favorites of the year. Then….it takes a series of shockingly aggressive turns. As they unfold, you can’t help but feel they are at best unearned and at worst unnecessarily provocative/exploitative.
So I don’t fault anyone who leaves with a bad taste in their mouth. However, after sitting with it a bit more I do think the ending works more than I originally felt (minus THAT scene being included for some unexplainable reason) & I can’t deny how moved I was by everything up till the twists and turns start getting out of hand.
