Aaron's Thoughts

Forgot just how excellent this is. Laugh out loud funny & just absolutely nails so many things about that time in life.

I won’t act like I had an identical experience to the protagonists, but I will never forget the moments leading up to high school graduation where I had a similar realizations that I may have wasted years of my life being solely focused on school. Someone who didn’t try for four years got a higher ACT score than me on the first attempt & I was a MESS. Then before you know it pretty much everyone was getting into the same colleges regardless of GPAs and all that. While I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily a feeling I want to experience again, I love how Wilde channels those anxieties and bottles them up into the film. Makes it feel nostalgic in a way that very rarely happens for me.

I also can’t help shake how bizarre it is that when you look through Beanie Feldstein’s filmography she is literally in two movies of note and they are two of the defining coming of age stories of not only the 2010s but also the century. Bizarre!
