Aaron's Thoughts

I know it’s based on a true story, so this isn’t the case, but the whole thing feels like Wahlberg wanted to make an inspirational movie about a terrible guy. The studio then said that there needed to be something to get audiences to actually see it in a theater. So they decided to add in a dog. In order to not rewrite the whole thing, they just have the dog not show up meaningfully until the final 1/3 of the movie, but then they would center all of the marketing around the dog so people would want to see it. I know that didn’t happen, but it feels like a movie where that was the intention.

Not one line reading or moment in this film feels like real life. So many lines of dialogue that make you chuckle. The whole thing is hilariously bad. It’s so obvious that the dog is just a pawn to emotionally manipulate people. I mean an underwater shot of the dog drowning???? Come on now…. that was beyond unnecessary.
