Aaron's Thoughts
Really intrigued why this was marketed solely as a a satire when it’s at a maximum only about half of what the film is even about. The family drama is just so tonally opposite of the satire portion that it’s sort of hard to wrap your head around.
The satire plot line is where the film really shines and where Cord’s prolific writing shines through. Would have loved to see 80% that and 20% family drama. It’s tender, hilarious at times, and sweet, but the family drama piece held it back from being perfect to me. Maybe it’s just because my expectations were in such a different place based on what the trailer gave us.
All that aside, Jeffery Wright is incredible. Really fun to see him as a leading man. And it's clear that Cord has a good eye for filmmaking. Eager to see what he does next.
