I get that many don’t love this because it’s got plenty of similarities to ‘There’s Something About Mary’, but this felt so much sweeter to me while TSAM is more laugh out loud funny. This is clearly a rom-com while TSAM is clearly a comedy.
I have unintentionally watched like half of Ben Stillers filmography for the first time over the past three months & feel like I have a much better feel for who he is as an actor. As a kid I was only familiar with him through the Night at the Museum movies and Happy Gilmore. This may be totally out of left field, but Albert Brooks has to be the closest comp to him as an actor. The neurotic on screen persona blended with the self-deprecating humor all wrapped up in an “ordinary” guy feels very modeled after Brooks. Not to mention Stiller’s foray into working behind the camera which mirrors Brooks.
Wish Jennifer Aniston had done more movies in her career, but I guess why would you when she’s had so much success in television.
