It’s never ideal for two leads in a romantic film to show more passion arguing than they do falling in love.
The whole thing just feels hollow & manufactured. We don’t get near enough time to get to know Farrell or Robbie’s character before we jump into the supposedly “Big and Bold” journey (which only makes everything to follow feel meaningless).
It’s such a bummer on multiple levels. Loved Kogonada’s first two films. Loved what the film was going for. The more life you live, the more things you have hidden deep within (both beautiful & traumatic). Getting to know another person as an adult is to quite literally open those doors and walk through them together, not knowing what’s on the other side.
And you just know that studios takeaways from this bombing is going to be that no one wants original adult films. 🙃
