Ralph Fiennes dancing & strutting around as if he owns the world is my favorite movie genre.
I sincerely hope that if we keep heading towards a world where franchises and IP are the only thing that thrive at the box office, that it is done like this. Use the franchise or the IP to sell tickets and then let the actual film have a point of view and things to say. Let it by artful and meaningful, not bland & forgettable. Take chances on stories like this inside the wrapper of a franchise film because boy does it work when it succeeds!
While the coda of 28 Years Later was extremely jarring (but in hindsight, probably necessary to prepare us for the shift the movie was taking), this one was perfect. I got the biggest smile on my face when the music started & even saluted the screen when the credits rolled. Long live movies!
Also, how nice is it to get a banger in January? Hope it’s a sign of a good movie year ahead!
